Persona 3 is where the series found its voice: a high school RPG about mortality, social bonds, and fighting monsters that appear at midnight. The Portable version compressed the full experience onto PSP and added a female protagonist route that reframes the entire story. Atlus released a PC port on Steam in 2023 — through GPTK4 it runs perfectly on Mac. If you've only played Persona 5, start here. P3's ending is one of the most affecting finales in JRPG history, and it earns every moment of it.
